With your cottage on Lislee Estate as a base for your Irish holidays, you can choose from a wide variety of activities available in our area of County Cork Ireland. You are surrounded by all that the coastal countryside of Ireland offers, while the towns of Courtmacsherry, Timoleague and Clonakilty are only a short drive away.
Walking Holidays / Birdwatching Holidays in Cork Ireland
Set in a rural farming area about 4 Kms from Courtmacsherry, Lislee House is within easy walking distance of the sea with two sandy beaches nearby, Broadstrand and Blindstrand. There are numerous pleasant walks all round the Seven Heads area. Of special interest are the Coolim Cliffs which form part of the newly devised Millennium Walk. planned to cover a distance of some 30 Kms, mostly in unspoilt countryside. The area is a birdwatching paradise.
Much of this countryside is quite unique with the remains of Ring
Forts and ancient Castles still visible at various sites including
Mahon Abbey Castle and Lislee Castle, both built by Geoffrey
(Siofra) Hodnett who in 1641 adopted his Christian name as a
surname, becoming "MacSiofra" or MacSherry which name was given to
the nearby village of Courtmacsherry.
Among nearby places to visit, the ruined Franciscan Abbey at
Timoleague is of much interest as are the Castle Gardens containing
ruins of a Norman Castle.
Fishing Holidays in Cork Ireland
Fishing is abundant throughout the area. The nearby Argideen River is noted for fishing sea trout and salmon and brown trout can be caught in the River Bandon. Pontoon mooring for yachts and pleasure boats is available at the new pier. There is a thriving sailing school, Courtmacsherry has the oldest Lifeboat Station in Ireland.Golf Holidays in Cork Ireland
There are Golf courses at Bandon and Dunmore and several other convenient locations including the Old Head of Kinsale and Lisselane.Also available throughout the area are riding ponies and horses and tracking.
On Spring and Summer evenings local teams can be found playing Irish sports, hurling. camogie, Gaelic football and road bowling. Festivals and events are held in many villages and towns including the Courtmacsherry Harbour Festival in July / August and the Courtmacsherry Story Telling and Model Lifeboat Weekends in September.
